Dadaab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has appeared before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) after being summoned last week.
In his appearance on Tuesday, Maalim recorded a statement with the commission regarding the remarks he allegedly made regarding the Gen Z protests against the 2024 Finance Bill.
According to NCIC, the congressman's remarks may incite hostility and discrimination.
"Mr. Farah Maalim is currently recording a statement respecting the previous call issued by the commission.
"Such remarks may incite feelings of contempt, hatred, enmity, violence or discrimination, and affect living in harmony between groups of different political positions in Kenya, contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act," the commission said on X.
The MP for Dadaab had been summoned to appear on Thursday, July 11.
"Farah Maalim should appear before the commission to help in the investigation mentioned above."
In a video posted to social media, Maalim refuted rumors that he supported Gen Z's death during anti-tax demonstrations.
The reprimanded member of parliament denied allegations that he advocated for the murder of minors, stating that such claims did not align with his views.
"I have never called for the death of any Kenyan. I did not do that and I will never call for it," he said.
Maalim emphasized that he is a righteous leader and will not risk the reputation he has carefully built over the years.
"I am a very honest person for more than 30 years I have been in the politics of this country. I am a person who has had a record matched by very few people," he said.
Maalim said that he will do what he believes is best for the country according to his conscience.
