Kasipul Member of Parliament Mr. Charles Ongondo has said that plans are underway to support schools to plant more trees in their compounds.
Ongondo said the schools must at least have 10 percent of their land covered with trees, saying this effort will help in mitigating the effects of climate change.
He lauded schools which have tried their best to plant trees in their schools but said he will still complement their initiative through the NG-CDF.
The MP was speaking Monday when he officially opened Kosele Primary School administration block built at a cost of Sh 2 million funded by the Kasipul Constituency NG-CDF kitty.
All constituencies in the country are allowed by law to spend two percent of the total allocation of NG-CDF fund on environment projects such as tree planting, cleanliness, soil erosion control, water management among others.
The MP said provision of adequate education infrastructure will ensure learning takes place in the schools leading to improved academic performances.
The school’s Head Teacher Ms Eliza Bonyo thanked the MP for the support saying now there is enough space for the teachers, the deputy teacher and the head teacher to effectively carry out the school programmes.
