Mt. Kenya University to award ICC prosecutor with honorary degree

Mt. Kenya University is set to award Karim Khan, International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor with a honorary degree.
According to a statement from the institution of higher learning, shared by digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, Khan will be feted for his outstanding contribution to the rule of law and international justice.
"Mt. Kenya University has nominated Mr. Karim Khan for conferment of honorary doctor of laws," reads the statement.
He will be awarded during the University's 23rd graduation ceremony on Friday, 4th August, 2023.
National Aseembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, will be the Chief Guest.
Khan is a veteran British lawyer, having practiced for over 30 years.
He is widely known in Kenya, after leading President William Ruto's defense counsel at the ICC, over Ruto's alleged involvement in the 2007/2008 post election violence.
The case was later dropped, long before Ruto was elected Kenya's 5th president in August, 2022.
He was elected ICC prosecutor in February, 2021 on a nine year term.
He took over from Gambian Fatou Bensouda.
