Gakoigo Show ground in Maragua will play host to this year’s Madaraka day Celebrations in Murang’a south Sub County on June 1.
While confirming that all was set for the day, Assistant County commissioner Alex Wainaina said that all the preparations for the 60th Madaraka day celebrations were complete and the Sub County was ready to host the event.
“We are calling upon the residents in Murang’a South to turn out in large numbers from 9 am and mark the first Madaraka day under the country’s new administration- the Kenya Kwanza government” he noted.
“As we commemorate the day in 1963 that our country attained internal self-rule, it is also a good chance for us to receive, participate and mark the day with anticipation and a message of hope” he added.
Wainaina concurred that there was hope as there is plenty in the farms as the rains continue to pound and a bountiful harvest is expected in a few weeks.
He noted that the uptake of the subsidized fertilizer was commendable and that’s gives hope for a good harvest after the prolonged drought and subsequent failed seasons that the country experienced.
Gakoigo Showground has the capacity to hold 1000 people.
Nationally, the Madaraka day celebrations will be held at the 8,700 seat capacity stadium in Embu County in a bid to improve and spur economic growth in the Eastern region.
