Mutahi Ngunyi: Ruto needs Uhuru
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta will eventually make up.
This is according to political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.
He says Ruto needs Uhuru and vice versa.
On Monday, the retired President met Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary in Nigeria, advancing claims that Uhuru, Ruto 'handshake' is in the pipeline.
The political analyst believes Uhuru, Mudavadi meetings are not a coincidence.
"Uhuru Kenyatta will make peace with William Ruto because he is peacemaker. He met Mudavadi in Burundi. And met Mudavadi in Nigeria. This is not a coincidence. Ruto needs Uhuru. Uhuru needs Ruto. And this is good for Country," he said.
Kenyatta's office acknowledged meeting Mudavadi in Nigeria. Photos shared showed the two in high spirits, hugging and laughing heartily.
"Former President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta today met with Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi in Abuja. The two leaders were in Nigeria to attend the Inauguration of H.E. Bola Tinubu as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
Despite having served as President and Deputy for 10 years from 2013 to 2022, Uhuru and Ruto are no longer in good books, owing to different political standings.
Instead of supporting his deputy to succeed him, Kenyatta threw his weight and support behind Azimio leader Raila Odinga, during the August, 2022 presidential contest.
Their 'bad blood' seems to have stemmed from the 2018 handshake between Kenyatta and Odinga.
