Narok county government has introduced the culture of performance contracting where the County Executive Committees (CECs) and Chief officers (COs) signed the performance contracts in a bid to improve service delivery to the residents.
Speaking during the signing of performance contracts for the CECs and COs at Narok county offices, Governor Patrick Ntutu, said the performance contract aims to evaluate the performance of the county administration in order to achieve the desired results.
“This is a move towards the improvement of the service delivery in all departments in the county government of Narok,” said Ntutu.
The governor said there will be a team that will be documenting results of every department annually, to highlight programmes and their impact to the residents.
The governor noted that performance contracting would be signed after every two years, urged the CECs and COs to work hard and achieve the desired results or else face the consequences.
“Before I go home or get fired by the people of Narok county, I have to check what you have been doing, or face the consequences,” added Ntutu.
Narok county public service board chairman, Kimanchoi Nkukuu encouraged the staff to perform above average, and asked them to deliver on their mandate so that they get rewards and job promotions.
He said the key indicators in the performance contract will be cascaded to directors, senior officers and even junior officers in the public service. This is because it is the only way to realize the objectives of the county strategic plan.
He said that there will be no promotions for officers before appraisals, adding that the public service is shifting from the behavior of just taking a number of years worked in public service for promotions, but must be accompanied by the appraisal.
Nkukuu said that the county administration has introduced the culture of performance contracting, which is vital to public service that helps in improving service delivery in all departments.
