The Narok Mau Mau Association has vowed to remain united until they get compensation from the government.

Led by their chairlady Miriam Kisio, the association members dismissed allegations that the group was split into two saying those spreading such rumours had an ulterior motive and should not be taken seriously.

Kisio, who was wife to the late Mau Mau veteran General Kurito Ole Kisio, killed in the Mau Mau war in 1954, said she wishes to leave a united people who will build this nation.

Mama Kisio, 94, underscored the need for unity among the association members, even as they continue waiting for compensation from the government.

She lamented facing numerous challenges since her husband died, saying she was evicted from her matrimonial home and currently lives in her first born son’s home.

“I request the government to give me a piece of land where I will be buried. I am homeless and feel abandoned though we faced a lot of challenges during the Mau Mau era,” she said.

Miriam spoke at the Youth Empowerment Hall in Narok town, during a meeting that brought together about 300 association members.

Wanjiku Gachoka, 100, asked the government to compensate the genuine Mau Mau veterans so that they can enjoy their sunset days.

She said though suffered under the coronial government, her children have not enjoyed the fruits of her labour as she was still landless.

Peter Ngiricho, a business person in Narok town, whose parents were Mau Mau fighters dismissed claims that the group was divided saying there was only one officially recognized Mau Mau Association in the county.

His sentiments were echoed by Daniel Kamau, the group’s secretary who stressed the need to work together to achieve their vision.

Kamau said that he had requested the county commissioner’s office to allow use of the government hall when holding meetings, instead of meeting in hotels and other social places where discussions are done secretly.

He further called on the members to appreciate and love one another as this was the initial spirit of the Mau Mau.
