Mutahi Ngunyi predicts Ruto, Uhuru handshake
By Peter Ochieng
Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi wants Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua alias Riggy G to prepare for a handshake between President William Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto served as Kenyatta’s deputy for 10 years, from 2013 to 2022 but the two are reportedly not on good terms, after the latter backed Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in 2022, at the expense of his then deputy.
Last week, Ruto nominated four ODM members to his cabinet. Taking to his X page, Ngunyi said what will follow next is Ruto having a handshake with Uhuru, a move he adds will work to the disadvantage of Gachagua.
The political analyst says the second in command may be impeached.
“Dear Riggy G: Do you understand what ODM joining the government means? And Uhuru-Ruto handshake, coming soon, would mean? It means impeachment. Not if, but when. If I were you, I would lie low like an envelope. But Ruto is a good man. However, do not push him. GEMA does not like you,” he warned.
He added, “If in two years, GEMA has not accepted Riggy G, something is wrong with this son of the Soil. Uhuru romanced him to destroy him. And it will happen soon. Riggy G should enjoy being DP for 10 years. He must know that everyone around him is an enemy. Only the paranoid survive.”
Reacting to Ngunyi’s assessment, an X user by name Lion of the Mountain urged him to shut up or help Ruto to deliver his promises to Kenyans.
“Dear Mutahi Ngunyi: When not speaking, help Ruto deliver. You are not Ruto's mouthpiece to divide his administration. Your methods are those of division. The brilliant mouthpiece helps their boss to shine.”
Before the wave of anti-government demos rocked the country over a month ago, Ruto and Gachagua were reportedly not on talking terms, but have buried the hatchet at least for now, to address challenges facing Kenyans.
