Residents of Narok Town have benefited from a free medical camp that focuses mainly on mental health issues and Cancer Screening.

New life Adventist church collaborated with Medicatia Hospital and the Narok Referral Hospital to conduct a one-day free medical care services in Narok town to create awareness on mental health and cancer awareness.

Addressing the press at Ole Ntimama Stadium, Amos Makori a new life Adventist church official said, in churches a big number of believers have a number of health problems which have always led to a big number of fundraisers.

“A big number of our followers report to our church offices health problems that lead to big fundraisers” added Makori.

Makori noted that it is this that has prompted the church to seek collaborations with health specialists so as to offer free medical services to their members to create awareness.

New life Adventist church health Director, Ms. Maureen Makori said through their collaboration with Medicatia hospital and Narok Referral Hospital through beyond zero program they are able to offer a number of medical services for all people.

“In this programme today, we are offering a number of services like cervical cancer screening, prostate screening, breast cancer screening diagnosis for diabetes, hypertension and body mass index” said the health director.

Douglas Mbaka, an officer in charge of marketing at Medicatia hospital Narok said these services are free of charge and there is an experienced group of doctors who are to offer the best services to the people.

However, Mbaka encouraged the public to show up for such services as they are free and it would help to build awareness on medical concerns like cancer screening.

Rhoda alima, a nurse at the Narok referral hospital and a member of new life church, said this is an annual activity that happens in May of every year, where New Life church carries out awareness on mental health through church service and workshops.

Alima added that the church collaborates with health specialists in creating awareness on signs and symptoms of mental health, causes and predisposing symptoms.

“During this month’s programme we realized that mental health affects a number of people from our children in schools to adults at home, it is therefore right to note that being healthy is not all about physical health, mental health is very crucial.” Alima said.

Steve Kabiru, a member of the church said screening is important because early detection of cancer helps in treatment and late diagnosis may lead to death due to the inability to treat it in the late stage.

“I have been able to go through the process and my diagnosis showed that I am ok and I encourage men to come for this screening because it is very important” added Kabiru.

According to the beneficiaries the process was very simple and very important and she encouraged the members and other people to join the process so as to know their health status.
