Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has officially handed over the Kenyan flag to the National Golf team which will be participating in the Region IV championship in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from June 5-11, 2023.

The CS said that golf is making good strides in its growth trajectory with the country recently hosting two international tournaments which attracted a good number of lady golfers.

Speaking on Monday during the flag handing over ceremony Namwamba said “Kenya just the other day played host to the Magical Kenya open which is gaining a lot of traction within the Golf Ecosystem internationally.”

The CS confessed that the best way Kenyans can shine is to invest in the young superstars from the grass root level.

Namwamba also congratulated the Young Golf Champions who won a trophy during the Uganda Golf Championship by emerging number three.

“I am very pleased to receive the trophy from our young ones as I hand over the National Flag to the Golf team who will represent Kenya in Region IV Championship in Ethiopia,” stated Namwamba.

The CS added that they have had a significant engagement between the national government and county governments on the Talenta Hela Initiative which will be launched officially on Friday in Nairobi.

“Talenta Hela function is significant to young people at the grassroots and I find a lot of pride in this partnership which will unveil hidden talents,” the CS reiterated.

He remarked that they have had the first gathering between him and the CECs from the counties to discuss issues on sports and the Talenta Hela Initiative.

“What brings us together is preparation to unveil the Talenta Hela Initiative,” Namwamba said.

He disclosed that he had opportunities to visit different counties like Homa Bay and Kisumu on the development of counties in sports.

“As the ministry we are clear on the direction we want to go and we have a master plan in infrastructure development,” said Namwmba.

The CS said that as the ministry they were prepared to get sponsorship in the sports arena which will be facilitated by putting together mega initiatives.

He added that CECs brought their different flags from different counties to signify confirmation of their attendance of the football from bottom up and confirm their colors of choice which will be used for branding of the tournaments.
