The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KNCCI) Nyandarua chapter has called out the government over its plan to introduce more taxes to the business community.
Speaking in Nyandarua when they held elections for their Nyandarua members, the group led by their new Chairperson Joseph Ndumia Theuri, said that the country cannot grow by extra taxation but only through increased production.
Theuri added that the group would strive to create more value for the produce grown in Nyandarua while at the same time empowering Nyandarua residents to do value addition for their products.
“The economics of production dictates that the taxes are lowered and productivity will gradually increase. A wealthy nation can only be realized by only indulging in inter trade with other counties and countries.
“The government should stop taxing low income business people because it demoralizes the entrepreneurs,” said Theuri.
He at the same time called out the Kenya Development Corporation over their high interest rates for its loans to members saying that there was no difference between the organ and the banks.
He said the money the body loans out were collected from the members as taxes and therefore it should be loaned to them at lower interests.
Meanwhile, the Youth Director in Nyandarua Kimone Kimone challenged the government for over taxing the youths in business saying that most youths in the country are unemployed and relied on business for sustenance.
He urged the government to exempt businesses established by the youths from paying taxes for the first three years before the business breaks even.
He encouraged the youths to venture into business saying that business has a lot more freedom than employment.
The caucus also said that they were greatly supporting the incumbent KNCCI chairperson Richard Ngatia to retain his chair position.
They also said that the chamber's national elections, which were bound to happen this year, should not be politicized.
