Nyeri County seeks public-private partnership with the Karen Hospital

Nyeri County Government through the Department of Health Services is seeking to forge a public-private partnership with the Karen Hospital towards preventive measures for non-communicable diseases for Nyeri residents.

In a meeting held at Nyeri county hall Monday, comprising of CECM Health Dr Joseph Kiragu, CECM Finance Robert Thuo, Wangare Demesi, the Chief Operations Officer, Karen and Dr Eric Nyandwi Karen hospital, they deliberated on ways to capacity build including conducting formal training for medical practioners in public health facilities on both basic and advanced life support.

During the meeting Dr Kiragu said this advancement is projected to help save cost by detecting the diseases early and creating a healthy workforce by empowering the public, through promoting awareness about lifestyle diseases such as cancer, diabetes and mental disorders.

The CECM for Health added that the cooperation between the Nyeri County Government and The Karen Hospital is also meant to make health affordable and accessible to the Nyeri county residents.

This development will be made possible through partner pricing and subsidising services that had earlier been unavailable to the local mwananchi.

CECM Finance Robert Thuo said the Nyeri County Government will facilitate this project by providing logistics services and any other resources that will be necessary for the success of the programme.
