The Ministry of Interior and National Administration are working in collaboration with Regional Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons (RESCA) in ensuring peace and security in the region.
State Department for Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo said that small arms and light weapons are some of the key threats to peace and security today.
Omollo in a speech read on his behalf by Secretary in charge of Internal Security Wilson Njenga on Tuesday in Nairobi during a RESCA workshop, added that they will be implementing policies on small arms and light weapons which will promote peace and help curb illegal transfer and reduce illicit trade.
The PS said that implementation of policies on small arms will reduce violence and address gender based violence which will lead to a more secure environment.
“We are pleased to see a number of member states visiting Kenya for the regional validation workshop on the assessment of gender transformative approaches and gender policy in the implementation of arms regulation instruments,” said Amollo.
He added that RESCA is hosted by the Kenya Government and it is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Omollo said that by promoting gender equality, there will be need for gender sensitive tools which will help to solve threats affecting countries hence enhancing peace and security.
“There is need to involve women in decisions concerning Regional Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons,” the PS reiterated.
Omollo urged member states who attended the Regional validation workshop to continue collaborating with each other to promote peace and security.
The PS thanked all participants and delegates from different countries for coming to Kenya and participating in the Regional Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons (RESCA).
