A section of the Members of Parliament aligned to the Orange Democratic Movement party from the Nyanza region have vowed to support the Kenya Kwanza government.

The majority of politicians from the Nyanza region have been fighting for many years.

ODM MPs led by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi on Saturday, August 17, 2024, said they are now part of President Ruto's government and they are ready to support his agenda.

" The government is only bad if you are not part of it. If you are outside, you don't have anybody who is representing you in that government. If that government does not talk to you, that government is bad but the moment that government has your people, the government cannot be bad, now the government is good, " said MP Atandi.

They appreciated President William Ruto for including them in the government by nominating two ODM members from Nyanza region.

" We are now committing to support our people in government, our people in Cabinet, we are going to rally behind you because we want you to deliver," he stated.

Ruto formed a broad-based government by nominating four members from the ODM party as Cabinet Secretaries to his administration.

The four are former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Opiyo Wandayi, Former National Assembly Leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi and Former ODM party Chairperson John Mbadi.

They promised to work with John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi, who are from their backyard, to ensure delivery to the Kenyans.

The Nyanza region has been a stronghold for Raila Odinga in political history but Ruto's move seems to bear the fruit of garnering the audience after including them in the government.

The Coastal region as well Western region have also been the strongholds of Raila. Ruto nominating Hassan Joho, and Wycliffe Oparanya to represent the regions will garner votes in the 2027 general elections.

In a few months, a section of youths from the Nyanza Region vowed not to undertake anti-government protests.
