Okumbi, Omondi rejoin Mathare United
Collins Omondi and Stanley Okumbi have rejoined Kenya Football Kenya (FKF) Premier League side, Mathare United.
They rejoin the 'Slum Boys' as both head coach and special technical advisor respectively until the end of the 2022/23 season.
It is the second stint for the two with the club after they both worked together during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, with Okumbi as head coach and Omondi as his assistant.
The Club is a statement said acting head coach Samuel Koko resumes his role as goalkeeper trainer and going forward will also work as an assistant to Omondi.
"Koko took charge with the team bottom of the standings and with only one win and proceeded to lead the lads to six wins in the 14 matches he presided over," the statement reads in part.
Omondi's and Okumbi's immediate task will be to steer the team out of the relegation zone, in Mathare's remaining eight matches.
The club currently sits in 16th place with 22 points, four points adrift of safety but with an advantage of a game in hand.
This will be Omondi’s second head coaching job in the Premier League after his tenure with Nzoia Sugar in the 2019/20 season.
He has also coached Nairobi Stima in the National Super League and was an assistant at Kariobangi Sharks and Posta Rangers with the latter being his immediate workstation.
For Okumbi, this is not an alien situation for him as in his first stint with the club between 2012 and 2015.
