One killed as Bodaboda factions clash

One person has succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent confrontation between rival bodaboda factions in Nyanchwa area in the outskirts of Kisii town, Kisii County.

Three suspects were arraigned before a local court following the violence that has led to destruction of property of unknown value.

Addressing the press after holding a county security meeting today, Kisii County Commissioner Tom Anjere blamed the local politicians for instigating the violence which started on Monday, and issued a stern warning to those culpable despite their social standing in the society.

“As a security committee we have realized that these riders are not working alone but there are politicians behind them, and we have decided that the law will be applied on anyone found culpable,” said Anjere.

Accusing the politicians for luring the youths through stipends to score out their own conflicts, the county commissioner said he will not allow un-lawlessness to reign in the town.

He urged the local police officers and Department Criminal Investigations to take legal action on any criminal.

He appealed to the residents to volunteer any information that will lead to nabbing more criminals and assured them that calm had been restored in the area.

County Police Commander Charles Kases decried arson attack by one of the factions that led to destruction of one house, and assured that they were pursuing more criminals.

He said that they had received information that some criminal elements have been ferried from a different region to beef up criminal activities of one faction.

The CC revealed that he will hold a meeting with the bodaboda riders to find a lasting solution to the conflict.
