A total of 75 orphans and vulnerable children from Rachuonyo South sub-county learning in various secondary schools have received the presidential bursary.
The students who are in forms 2, 3 and 4 this year received an allocation of Sh 9,087 each and cheques have already been sent to their respective schools.
Speaking to KNA in his office today, Rachuonyo South Children’s Officer Mr. Brian Saidi said the government had disbursed a total of Sh 681,568 for the presidential bursary kitty.
“The bursary was only distributed to the continuing students learning in boarding public secondary schools,” the officer said noting that last year, a total of 90 students benefitted from the same programme.
Saidi said new applications for the bursary are ongoing and encouraged residents to apply, saying vetting of the applicants will be done soon for this financial year. He said the bursary application forms are available at the Children’s Office and at the Chiefs and their assistant offices in the sub-county.
“The application form must have attached current school report form and KCPE result slip, school fees structure indicating school bank account and branch, copy of school admission letter for new students and passport size photographs,” the officer said
Other requirements to be attached the officer said include a copy of the death certificate or burial permit for deceased parents
The Children Officer revealed the vetting committee comprises the area Member of Parliament, the County Woman Representatives, the sub-county Deputy County Commissioner, a religious organization and the Children's Department where the officer in charge is the secretary to the committee.
