Otuoma wants Busia to host Mashujaa Day celebrations

Busia governor Paul Nyongesa Otuoma wants his County to host one of the national holidays in the course of this year.

According to Otuoma, they are ready to host Mashujaa Day celebrations on 20th October, 2023, if they get a nod from President William Ruto's administration.

The governor said he will place the request to the Head of State, when he visits the border county this weekend.

Addressing members of the press at the Busia Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) on Thursday, the first term county boss disclosed that the President is expected at the border town on Sunday, for an inter-denominational service.

The service will be held at the Busia County Stadium.

"Our suggestion is to host the Mashujaa Day on October 20th, 2023 or any other that will come after that. We are ready to take the challenge and bring the national holiday to Busia," said the former Funyula MP.

The governor outlined areas of collaboration between the county and national governments.

Top on the list is the fast tracking of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at the 843-acre Nasewa public land, and construction of a modern stadium at Nasewa.

"The other issue of urgent concern is the dualization of Korinda-Customs Road and Road infstructure. Currently the Kenya National Highway Authority is undertaking maintenance works. The dualization will pave way for creation of pathways, motorways, " he added.

He said despite having been elected on the ODM part ticket within Azimio, he is ready to welcome the President to Busia.
