More than 80,000 candidates in Busia County are well prepared and ready to sit for the National examinations this year, the County Director of Education James Ekaliyo has said.
Speaking to the press in his office on Wednesday, Ekaliyo said that a total of 81,755 candidates will sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), KCPE, and KCSE.
“We expect a total of 30,856 candidates to sit for KPSEA out of which 15,557 boys and 15,299 girls,” he said, adding that 33,262 candidates will sit for KCPE.
He pointed out that 16,615 girls and 16,640 boys will undertake the last KCPE examinations this year.
The Director further stated that 17,637 candidates (8,643 boys and 8,994 girls) will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.
"We have already organized security for the exercise and some police officers will be manning the examination containers while others will be spread out in various examination centers,” he said, adding that government vehicles and some school buses would be used to transport examination materials to and from various centers.
Ekaliyo at the same time said that some schools that are far from the Examination Centre, especially in Bunyala Sub County would get their examination materials from the nearby Siaya County.
“About three examination centers will pick their examination materials from Siaya County,” he explained, adding that alternative means of transport like the use of boats would be deployed in case of El Nino rains.
He encouraged all candidates who registered for the examinations but left school for various reasons to turn out and participate in the important exercise.
