Over 2,000 Pupils and parents protest against the transfer of Head teacher

Over 2,000 Pupils and parents of Ilmashariani Primary School in Narok county have protested against the transfer of their head teacher by Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The pupils carrying twigs and placards boycotted their classes for the second day Thursday, marching together with the parents to the TSC offices, demanding that the transfer of their head teacher by the TSC be reversed.

According to Ilmashariani Primary School Parents, the head teacher Ms. Jane Sankok has contributed to the transformation of the institution, thus they commended her for her dedication and commitment towards the pupils.

At the same time, pupils argued that the transfer was unjustifiable as the head teacher had been playing an important role to improve the school performance for the eight years that she had been the head.

Addressing the pupils at TSC offices, Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde, asked the pupils to maintain peace as the relevant authorities’ look into ways to settle the matter.

“We have heard your grievances and we encourage you to maintain peace as we continue to work on it,” said Masinde.

The TSC county director Ms. Jane Mutua, said the situation was controlled and the head teacher was allowed to go with pupils back to school to enable them continue with their learning.

Mutua revealed that the head teacher Ms. Sankok, has been transferred to Kisiriri Primary School within the county and replaced by Gideon Sururu who is from Naisuyia Primary School.

The TSC County Director divulged that the commission has already transferred twenty-nine head teachers and deputies out of nine hundred and eighty-eight head teachers in the county.

Mutua said TSC will carry out its investigation into the matter to establish the root cause of the demonstration.
