Passaris speaks on stepping down, endorsing rival for Nairobi Woman Rep race
Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris has dismissed social media reports claiming that she has stepped down from the race to defend her seat in the August 2022 election. For the better part of Sunday, #PassarisEndorsesAnita trended on Twitter with a section of netizens claiming that Passaris had stepped down in favour of Anita Epale, who is also eyeing the seat on the Azimio la Umoja ticket. Reacting to the reports, Passaris made it clear that she is still in the race, adding that it has been a great honour serving the people of Nairobi. “My attention has been drawn to malicious & false allegations purporting that I have stepped down from defending my seat. Nothing could be further from the truth. Serving the People of Nairobi as their Woman Rep. has been a great honor, and I intend to continue this noble journey,” Passaris tweeted. The Azimio flag bearer will go against UDA’s Millicent Omanga who is making a second stag at the seat. Meanwhile, a recent poll released by Mizani indicated that Senator Omanga is leading the Woman Rep race with 28.1 per cent approval rating, followed by Esther Passaris at 22 per cent. Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Public Service and Gender Rachael Shebesh was ranked third at 11.9 per cent, although she will not be contesting any political seat as she did not resign from public office during the deadline set by the IEBC
