Raila's sister wins ODM primaries, as MP Ouda is beaten

By Peter Ochieng ODM party leader Raila Odinga's sister, Ruth Adhiambo Odinga is on the verge of being elected the third Kisumu County Women Representative. This is after she emerged victorious in ODM party primaries, held in the Lakeside County on Tuesday, April 20, 2022. Ruth, former Kisumu County Deputy Governor (DG) won the ticket after garnering 23,665 votes, against her closest challenger Rose Omondi, who got 13,685 votes. If elected on August 09, 2022, she will become Kisumu County's third Women Representative after Rose Nyamunga and Rozah Akinyi Buyu. Buyu was handed a direct ODM ticket to vie for the Kisumu West Parliamentary seat, while Nyamunga was defeated by lawyer Tom Ojienda in ODM's Senatorial nominations. Ojienda got 39, 336 while Nyamunga who is serving as a nominated Senator managed 18,319. Buyu will face off with her long time political nemesis, incumbent John Olago Aluoch who recently decamped from Ford Kenya to DAP-Kenya. In Muhoroni, the incumbent Member of Parliament Joshua Onyango Koyoo got a nod from ODM supporters, after beating four other contestants to clinch the Orange party's ticket. [caption id="attachment_17733" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Photo Courtesy[/caption] He got 4, 043 votes followed by former gubernatorial candidate Hezron McObewa who managed 3, 317 votes. Nicholas Oricho emerged the winner in the Kisumu East Parliamentary race, beating among others Senior counsel James Aggrey Mwamu, while in Nyakach, MP Aduma Owuor was declared the winner. In Kisumu Central, MP Fred Ouda lost to businessman Dr Joshua Oron. Oron got 6,842 votes against Ouda's 5,362 votes. The exercise was not held in Seme and Nyando constituencies, after MPs James Nyikal and Jared Okello were handed direct ODM tickets to defend their seats in the upcoming general elections.
