Residents cautioned against walking near game reserve to avert attacks

Residents of Kibwezi East have been cautioned against moving at night near the Chyulu Game reserve to avoid being attacked by elephants in the area.

The warning comes after a 34-year-old man was attacked and killed by an elephant at Katilamuni village Masimbani Sub location on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.

Speaking to KNA at his Wote office, Makueni County Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Warden Gabriel Kiio confirmed the killing of Simon Kioko Mutiso by the jumbo.

“The deceased was walking in the bush roads on his way home when he encountered the one jumbo with its calf that killed him on the spot. I urge you to avoid walking near the park,” cautioned Kiio.

Kiio disclosed that the Problem Animal Control (PAC) officers were driving away six elephants back to the reserve when the unfortunate incident happened.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kibwezi funeral home.
