Residents supports the construction of a police post at Nyayo Tea Zone

Residents of Bukhungu Location have supported a move to construct a police post at Nyayo Tea Zone in Milimani, Kakamega county, to improve security of locals.

Speaking during a public Participation organized by Bukhungu Location Chief Ben Muhanji, the residents also asked partners who will construct the police post to hoist high mast flood lights.

According to the area Chief, Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has donated half an acre of land for the construction of the police post which will serve Nyayo Tea Zone upto Milimani and parts of Lurambi.

He said the National Government will partner with Kakamega County Government, the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and Masinde Muliro University to construct the police post.

At the same time, he warned notorious chang’aa brewers to desist from the habit and engage in other meaningful businesses.

Speaking during the public participation forum, Masinde Muliro University security officer Bonface Manoah said the police post will be the second one that the University is participating in its construction.

He said the University participated in the construction of a police post at Kefinco estate in Lurambi Sub County last year following increasing insecurity cases.

“Cases of insecurity have drastically reduced since the University handed over the Kefinco police post to the National Police Service,” he added.

He said the University put up high mast flood lights at Kefinco and Koromatangi estates and will erect others at Nyayo Tea Zone and where community members will decide.

Meanwhile, Manoah asked community members who provide accommodation for students to register with the Landlord Hostel Owners Association at the University’s Dean of students.

He said the Association helps in resolving disputes between the landlords and students and is a platform where they can be considered to offer accommodation during intakes.

“Every year we admit many students. This year we admitted almost 7000 first year students. We have over 23 000 students at MMUST who need accommodation and you can benefit from it,” he pointed out.
