By Peter Ochieng
New dates have been set for the rescheduled Nyanza International Investment Conference.
The conference was to take place from June 28-29, 2024, before being postponed as a result of anti-government demonstrations.
Eliud Owalo, Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the President, Performance and Delivery Management on Monday revealed that the event will now be held from 6th-8th February, 2025.
The dates, Owalo said, were agreed on during a meeting with members of the organising committee and Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Julius Ogamba (Education).
“Alongside CS’s Opiyo Wandayi and Julius Ogamba, we met the Organizing Committee of the Nyanza International Investment Conference. Absent with apologies due to other commitments was National Treasury CS John Mbadi.
The conference that was earlier postponed will now be held from 6th-8th February 2025,” Owalo shared online. The conference is expected to bring together local and international investors, as well as the country’s top leadership to explore investment opportunities in the Nyanza region.
President William Ruto was expected to officially open the conference, before its cancellation.
Meanwhile, the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) in partnership with USAID, and Water Kenya Sanitation Project (WKWP) are set to host the inaugural conference on Innovative Solutions and Collaborative Partnerships to address water resource management challenges in Kenya’s Lake region.
The landmark conference to be held on 6th-7th November 2024 at Ciala Resort Kisumu, Kenya will aim to foster dialogues and collaboration among diverse stakeholders in addressing the pressing issues of water scarcity, pollution, and inefficient service delivery that affect millions in the region.
Themed, “Accelerating Partnership and Collaboration on Water as a Shared Resource for Sustained Service Delivery in the Lake Region Economic Bloc, the event is a response to the region’s need to accelerate water resource management within the bloc, which if not mitigated in a structured sustainable approach, poses great havoc to human life and livelihoods.
“Water is a vital resource for life, and its management is crucial for sustainable development in the Lake region,” said Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka, who doubles up as Vice Chairman, LREB.
The two-day conference will provide a platform of open consultations, inviting inputs from the broad mix of over 300 key stakeholders drawn from the national government, county leadership, community leaders, private sector representatives, and development partners.
