Ruto picks next DPP
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto on Thursday picked the person he would like to see serve as the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ruto's pick is Renson Ingonga Mulele, who has worked as Assistant DPP.
He was picked from a list of 15 individuals, who were shortlisted after interviews that ended early this month.
Outspoken lawyer Joshua Miguna Miguna was among those who applied but were not invited for the interview.
The President has forwarded Ingonga's name to the National Assembly for vetting and possible approval.
If given the green light by MPs, he will succeed his former boss, Noordin Haji who is now the Director General, National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale is among politicians who thanked Ruto for settling on Ingonga as the next DPP.
"Thank you Mr. President @WilliamsRuto for nominating Renson Ingonga as the Director of Public Prosecution. Ikolomani, Kakamega, and Western are happy," wrote the Senator.
"The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions advisory board and staff congratulates Mr. Renson Mulele Ingonga, OGW, on his nomination by His Excellency the President @WilliamsRuto as the next Director of Public Prosecutions," reads a statement from the ODPP.
The tenure of office for a DPP is a non-renewable eight years.
