Ruto: We will employ more teachers next year

By Peter Ochieng

More teachers will be employed in the course of next year, in a bid to reign in on the shortage of teachers in the country.

Speaking at the Limuru Girls High School in Kiambu on Saturday during celebrations to mark 100 year's of the institution's existence, President William Ruto said his administration has employed 35, 000 teachers since he assumed office in 2022.

He said more teachers will be employed next year, capping the number at another 35, 000.

"We have already employed 35, 000 teachers this year and the largest we intend to add next year because we want to have our children get the necessary quality education," he said.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced mass recruitment of teachers in January, 2023.

35, 000 were employed in the process, majority being deployed to the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) across the country.

President Ruto was accompanied by among others his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu.

Gachagua said Limuru Girls is among the legendary schools in the country, adding that the government will continue to support such institutions.

"The institution in Kiambu County, is among the traditional national schools that have performed highly and churned out professionals who have contributed to the growth and development of our Nation for years."

"We will continue investing in such schools and other upcoming institutions to give them more impetus in delivering quality education."

"Congratulations to the parents, teachers and students for keeping the school shining for all these years," he added.

The second in command gifted the learners Sh1 million to organize 'a party.'
