Sabina Chege:It is necessary we support the government of the day
By Robert Mutasi
Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has urged opposition leaders to support the Kenya Kwanza government.
She said this would enhance the nation's betterment and promote unity.
Speaking during the breakfast prayer at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi today, Chege mentioned that there is a need for leaders from the opposition and government to reconcile for the sake of Kenyans and development.
She defended the victory of President William Ruto and said that since they handed over power to him, they have to support his agenda as well.
The MP further defended her decision to attend the prayers despite other opposition allies not showing up,she said she did so for the sake of the nation and not her own interests.
"The people from my side who chose not to come for this important prayer breakfast need to accept that it was us who handed over the power," said Chege.
The former Murang'a Woman Representative stated that the country is going through many challenges, and it is the right time to save it from collapsing.
Chege urged opposition leaders to work together with the government to solve the problems Kenyans are facing.
"The only thing I have done is to think about Kenya first and not myself, and hopefully, Kenya is going to rise," admitted the MP after she claimed that Azimio is planning to remove her as Deputy Minority Whip Leader.
At the same time, she urged Kenya Kwanza leaders to defend her seat in case Azimio intends to remove her.
Azimio la Umoja coalition party leader announced they would not attend the event and termed it as a "dishonor" to God.
However, Azimio gave MPs the freedom to decide whether or not to attend the prayers.
“If past events where we have shared platforms with Kenya Kwanza are to serve as a guide, Azimio is convinced that the National Prayer Breakfast does not offer the environment the country needs,” the coalition said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Instead, the event will dishonor God and country with a display of arrogance, superiority battles, false hopes to citizens, and vitriolic post-event mischaracterization and misinterpretation of intentions by well-known Kenya Kwanza leaders. We have therefore declined the invitation to the breakfast.”
