Sevilla's Moroccan international keeper Bono joins Saudi side Al Hilal
MADRID, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) --
Moroccan international goalkeeper Yassine Bounou 'Bono' has completed his transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for a fee of 20 million euros.
Bono departs just hours after playing for Sevilla in the European Supercup final, which they lost to Manchester City in a penalty shoot-out on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the press after the match, Sevilla coach Jose Luis Mendilibar admitted that 32-year-old Bono was likely to depart in the coming days.
The goalkeeper leaves Sevilla after tallying 142 appearances and winning the Europa League twice. He joined the club from Girona in 2020 following an initial loan stint.
The club confirmed they will host an official send-off and stated on their official website: "Sevilla is grateful to Bono for his work and effort in this period that has just ended and wish him the best of luck for the future that opens up for him."
With Bono's exit, Marko Dmitrovic emerges as the first-choice goalkeeper. Given Dmitrovic's prior collaboration with Mendilibar at Eibar, Sevilla is anticipated to scout for an economical backup. Funds from Bono's sale will be allocated to fortify the squad, especially since left-back Marcos Acuna may also be on the transfer list before the month concludes.
