Sh 420,000 fine for man transporting donkey meat

A 37-year-old man was on Wednesday fined Sh 420,000 by the Kenol law courts or in default serve 18 months’ imprisonment for slaughtering and transporting donkey meat contrary to public health guidelines.

On the evening of November 14 ,2023 the residents of Marura village, Makuyu reported of suspicious activity happening in Antony Mwaura's compound.

It was reported that there were at least 10 people with knives slaughtering donkeys and loading them into a van before hurriedly driving off.

The residents alerted the area chief who informed the Deputy County Commissioner Gitonga Murungi and they were to intercept one of the vans that had got stuck in mud.

The court heard that the van belonged to Francis Wambiru car registration number KCC 954W.

At the scene of the suspicious activity, police officers were able to find 30 donkey heads, skin, hooves, 6 torches, 1 slasher, 2 knives and 1 panga.

The suspect pleaded guilty to the charges against him before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga.

It was revealed that Wambiru who hails from Naivasha was not a first time offender as he had a similar case at Naivasha Law court.
