A Narok spiritual leader is calling on the police and Department of Transport to enforce traffic rules so as to curb the increasing road accidents that have been witnessed in the country in the recent past.
Bishop Nicholas Ndavi, of Word of Faith churches said it was sad to see people losing their lives due to careless driving and driving unroadworthy vehicles at the watch of police officers.
While condoling with the families that lost their beloved relatives at Londiani Junction in Kericho County, Bishop Ndavi said any time we have such challenges, we should not react but respond to the challenges first.
“We should be asking ourselves, what we should do so that we do not get into such a situation again. The traders on the roadside should have permanent structures far from the road to avoid such calamities,” he said.
He asked motorists to observe traffic regulations by ensuring their vehicles were in good condition and drive carefully to avoid accidents.
“Most of the roads in the country are well tarmacked and some drivers will take advantage of this to over speed their vehicles. This is very dangerous and should be avoided at all cost,” he said.
The bishop spoke a few days after the Londiani accident in Kericho County that claimed the lives of 52 people.
Yesterday over 30 people were left nursing injuries in the Mau Summit area, a few Kilometers from the Londiani accident after the bus they were traveling in overturned.
Narok County Police Commander John Kizito said drivers caught flouting the traffic regulations will be arrested and prosecuted in court of law.
He reiterated that the number of accidents reported in the county was on the increase, saying hardly a day would end without an accident being reported in the area.
