Coast Regional Commissioner (RC) Rhoda Onyancha has called on state agencies to work closely with police to tame the vandalism menace in the region.

Onyancha said cases of vandalism of critical public infrastructure are on the rise since the lifting of the ban on the scrap metal business.

She asked security agencies to deal firmly with vandals targeting railways, communication masts, electricity transformers, and road infrastructure.

“There is a need to protect these key installations where the government has invested heavily to serve the public,” said the Regional Commissioner.

Onyancha was speaking during the inaugural Regional Implementation Coordination and Management Committee meeting at her Uhuru na Kazi boardroom in Mombasa.

“Security and other government agencies must work closely and share information to curb vandalism and other criminal activities,” added Onyancha who is also the chairperson of the committee in charge of coordination and implementation of national government projects, programs, and policies in the region.

The Administrator also urged government ministries and other state agencies to seek internal solutions to resolving disputes among them.

“It is embarrassing to see public entities taking their disputes to courts or resorting to other flustered means,” said the Regional Commissioner.

The committee and those of national and county levels were established through Executive Order No.1 of 2023 to play the oversight role and be responsible for the coordination of national government projects, programs, and policies.

The regional heads from government departments and parastatals were taken through the mandate and reporting matrix of the committee by the government delivery service secretariat.

Onyancha said the regional heads will be required in the subsequent meetings to prepare brief reports on projects and programs in their respective departments.

She asked them to take the meetings and deliberations of the committee seriously and ensure they attend in person.
