Steering Kenya’s Transport Sector Forward

By Robert Mutasi
The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will have a meeting with the stakeholders of public transport sector in order to get informed of public transport drivers' plight.
They can try their best towards having an ideal system for drivers as well as passengers by hearing them out.
They will continue watching over the rail system so it is well administered and money meant for rail schemes is spent appropriately.
In total, this master plan shows that the committee is committed to improving the transport system in Kenya. If they succeed in implementing these plans, it will make transport safe and convenient for every Kenyan.
The committee also wants to deal with people working in the boda boda sector to make their work safe and fair.
The Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, headed by George Kariuki, is moving forward in addressing the major challenges of Kenya's transport sector.
They plan to increase the number and improve public transport in the second half of the 2024-25 budget period.
The Committee will visit the Kenya Air Transport Authority to ensure the efficiency and safety of air transport, as many people have access to flights.
One of the main things they plan to do is to change the basic principle.
They submitted to the Road Council (amendment) the Bill of the Country's Road Council, the Amendment Bill of the National Transportation and Safety Administration (Amendment) of 2024 and the Bill on the regulation of public transport (rules for motorcycles) No. 38 of 2023.
It will safeguard these workers and enable them to organize their work in a better way.
The reforms will help in promoting safety and management in the transport sector, especially for boda boda motorcycles, which have been a sequence of safety issues.
They will also make visits to major transport hubs such as the Kenya Port Authority and Moi International Airport to inquire about the status of operations and monitor any problems that need to be rectified.
Through an inspection of road projects across the country, they are able to facilitate the speeding up of its completion.
