Susan Kihika Governor Nakuru County has asked her County Executive Committee Members (CECM) to work diligently or face the sack.

Speaking during the signing of performance contract at her Nakuru offices Thursday, Kihika promised to sack the CECM on the condition that they will not have achieved 30 per cent out of what they are expected to do under the project management by the end of this financial year.

Kihika reiterated that the signing of the performance contract was going to be taken very seriously as it was going to push for implementation of stagnated projects mentioning Afraha stadium as one of the long overdue projects requiring urgent completion.

“Development quotient develops livelihoods, enables business and access to government services, and through this performance contract I expect every member to support their department to achieve their goals,” she said, insisting on the importance of development in the county as it had been given the highest percentage from the budget which was 30 per cent.

Governor Kihika described the performance contracts as binding commitments by the CECMS to deliver in their respective departments, demanding high levels of absorption of development funds as set in the budget and completion of projects within the stipulated timeframe.

She tasked CECMs to safeguard County Government property, by making frequent fieldwork visits to monitor implementation of projects, measure the impact to the target residents and avoid seeking excuses after failing to deliver on the promises.

She ordered each CE CM to submit quarterly reports of project implementation to her office, while ensuring value for money.

Governor Kihika called for a change of mindset in the delivery of services to ensure the residents of Nakuru receive the benefits of projects funded by the County Government and donor funds.

She warned the land department for being lazy at work for many cases had been reported to her of many land grabbers who are even going to an extent of grabbing government land and others lying to the people to sign contacts using her name.

Kihika sounded a warning to the government stakeholders who were collaborating with those land grabbers that their days are numbered and she was not only going to sue them but also prosecute them.

Deputy governor David Kones asked the Executive Committee members not only to work hand in hand with the governor but also to work hard because at the end of their contract they were going to be judged by the work they have done.

Kones asked the CECM not to view the signing of the contracts as a punishment but to use it as a guide book to know what to do and in which way they should go about it.
