Three robbery suspects have been arrested in Kisii, days after reportedly murdering a security guard.
The trio, identified as 31-year-old Festus Odhiambo aka Arum, 31-year-old Thomas Momanyi Omenta and 26-year-old Grace Kerubo Oseko went into hiding, after allegedly committing the murder on November 26, 2024.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the gang on the fateful night ambushed a 22-year-old guard at Engako Bar, which is located within Nyachenge trading centre, clobbered him with crude weapons and left him for dead.
Overpowered, the guard bled to death as the assailants broke into the bar and disappeared with Sh26,000 worth of alcohol. Tabaka area chief swiftly informed the police of the incident, who activated a team of detectives to pursue the gang.
“Acting on intelligence leads, the investigators traversed the county of Migori, flushing out the 1st suspect, Festus Odhiambo aka Arum. At his hole, the sleuths seized a set of blood-stained clothes,” said the DCI.
After extensively interviewing Odhiambo, the Gucha-based detectives spread their wings in a bid to nab other suspects, Thomas Momanyi and Grace Kerubo.
“The two were nabbed within Kisii township, and from them a mobile phone stolen from the primary scene recovered,” added DCI.
During an identification parade today led by the Sub-County Head of Investigations, it emerged that the trio had revealed at the bar earlier on the fateful night of murder. Frequent consumers at the joint positively identified them.
The three are being held at Nyamarambe Police Station, having been arraigned under a miscellaneous application to assist with further investigations.
