The top candidate in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results in Laikipia County wants to join Kenya High School for her secondary studies.
Tracy Wangari who was a candidate at Laikipia Airbase primary school posted 417 marks in the KCPE from the possible 500 marks.
Speaking at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Nanyuki town on Friday during a celebration for the transition from childhood to adulthood for pupils who completed their primary education, she thanked teachers and parents for their support.
“God has shielded me throughout the exam season and the secret behind my success was pure hard work including time management in whatever I did. And all my achievements, I attribute to our teachers,” said Wangari, revealing that after her secondary education, she hopes to be a Neurosurgeon.
She encouraged her peers to keep their dreams alive even after joining various secondary schools across the country.
Peter Wainaina Njenga, a teacher at Thingithu secondary school and father to Wangari, said that she was a disciplined, hardworking child and at the same time, the candidate had maintained the family tradition of posting good grades.
“We are very proud of her performance and wish her the best of luck as she pursues the dream of being a surgeon. However, she has to be hardworking and avoid bad company to achieve that,” said the joyful father.
He revealed that Wangari's elder siblings who sat their KCPE in 2018 and 2019 had scored 410 and 418 marks respectively.
Laikipia Airbase primary school head teacher David Mugambi on his part said that Wangari had maintained good performance since she joined the school.
“She is a good girl, and since she joined class one, she has always become position one or two, however, when she came second, she cried. Tracy has made us proud as a school for garnering 417 marks,” said Mugambi.
Mugambi further pointed out that about 12 candidates in the school had over 400 marks and thanked all the partners for their support in making the school which is situated within the army unit shine.
Laikipia Air Base Primary School was the best school in the county with over 20 candidates scoring 390 marks and above.
