A trader was seriously injured by a lone elephant in Doldol market, Laikipia North Sub County Friday.
Confirming the incident, the local Kenya Wildlife Service Assistant Director Rose Malenya said the jumbo that had escaped from a nearby conservancy trampled on Lesikimpi Olekimirri, and the victim was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Malenya said the elephant broke through the electric fence to the busy market causing panic among the traders.
Malenya said though they managed to chase the animal away, it later returned as if with fury and injured the trader.
The Assistant Director said the rogue animal was killed instantly by the KWS rangers to prevent further damage, since it was a market day in the area and many people were busy operating their businesses.
Malenya, regretted the many cases of human-wildlife conflicts in the region especially during dry seasons.
