Following a new announcement by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) that saw prices of fuel hiked yet again, Narok transport sector and traders have pleaded with President Dr. William Ruto to intervene and bring the prices down.

Matatu owners, taxi drivers, boda boda operators and traders in Narok town said the increase in fuel prices would negatively impact on their businesses.

Last night, EPRA, which is mandated to regulate the prices of energy and petroleum products, released a historical high price where super petrol went up by Sh16.96, diesel increased by Sh21.32 and kerosene increased by Sh33.13.

Sayailel Ntobil, a Taxi driver, feared losing his customers as he would be forced to hike the charges, a move that could not go well with his customers.

“The new prices came as a shock to us in the transport sector. I plead with our president to find a way of resolving this issue because it will drain our finances,” he said.

Denis Nyamyeya, a boda boda rider said he would be forced to hike fare so that he could make some profit in his business.

“We know our president wishes us well because of his past development track. Everything has a solution, that is why we beg him to look for a better solution in the energy sector,” he said.

The rise in petroleum products, according to EPRA, is as a result of an increase in dollar exchange against Kenyan shilling as the US dollar is currently trading at Sh150.
