Grief engulfed residents at Tangakona market in Teso after a 28-year-old man on Saturday hanged himself on a tree in the market in frustration after he was dumped by his wife.
The deceased identified as Augustine Adung’osi who was known to be an illicit brew addict according to an eye witness, took the painful decision after he failed to come to terms with the reality of separation.
Adungosi who is said to have been in the marriage for over 5 years recently separated with his wife after she reportedly complained that she could not cope with an alcoholic in the face of hard economic times the family was going through.
Residents are now urging security agencies in the County of Busia to seal all loopholes for illicit brew trade and hard drugs.
“The rate at which the youth are engaging in drugs and substance abuse is alarming. The government must move in and control the addiction,” said Maurice Ongare, a resident at Tangakona.
Nambale Subcounty Police Commander Sammy Kamau confirmed the incident saying it is pending further investigation.
Police removed the body of the deceased that stayed overnight at the scene today morning to Busia hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
