Uasin Gishu County Government, through the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works, has embarked on a one-week exercise, to hand over 102 new road projects to contractors, who were awarded tenders under the 2022/23 Financial Year.
The County Government has expressed commitment towards improving the road networks, to enhance accessibility to agricultural areas, trading centers, and other social amenities, to promote economic growth and development.
In his manifesto, Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii, listed infrastructure as a key pillar for economic development of the County.
Roads County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Eng. Joseph Lagat, says the projects include drainage works and graveling, bridges and box culverts, footbridges, and pothole patching.
"We shall be through with this exercise by Friday, because we want the contractors to do quality work and expedite the implementation process, before the heavy rains commence," Eng Lagat said.
The CECM urged women and youth who were awarded the tenders and any other person who benefited, to work hard and deliver quality work, as a better way of ensuring they are considered in the future for other tenders and government contracts.
"We want the contractors to deliver quality work as specified in the Bill of Quantities, so that residents get value for their money," he added.
Resident Eng. Benjamin Kirongo, said so far over 35 projects have been handed over, affirming that the progress is good and hope before the rains starts, substantial work would have been done by the contractors.
