In an effort towards achieving sustainable food diversification and value addition in agriculture, the Uasin Gishu County governor Jonathan Bii has flagged off 336 dedicated enumerators, to gather related vital information from farmers for better planning.

Speaking while flagging off the enumerators, Bii noted that farmers were the bedrock of the county and by virtue of their dedication to agriculture, form the very backbone of the agricultural landscape and the architects of food security.

“In collaboration with the national government, this undertaking of gathering information from farmers is born out of the necessity to consolidate data, to harness the power of the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management Information System (KIAMIS),” he noted.

He explained that the process involves mapping and recording farm and farmer details, primary farm ownership, farm enterprises, inputs, machinery services, land and water management, and financial services.

“The urgency of this mission is underscored by the pressing need for real-time, precise data that has often hindered our path to meaningful development as a country,” said Bii.

Bii further noted that the data collected will be used to assess food and nutrition security, target support to farmers, formulate informed policies, attract investments, promote manufacturing, and develop infrastructure.

“This initiative began on August 9th with stakeholder and farmer sensitization and the recruitment of agripreneurs and supervisors,” said Bii.

“As a county, we are proud to provide temporary employment to 336 youths from our wards through this initiative,” said the governor.

He urged all farmers to participate in the registration exercise as their involvement is critical to its success and to securing our food future.
