Residents of the Nyanza region have been urged to join United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and participate in the forthcoming party polls.

Party leaders Ochieng Daima, David Kalo, Charles Owino and Odoyo Owidi said the region stands to reap big in terms of development by joining the party.

At the same time the leaders warned that rival political parties in the region may be planting moles into UDA with the objective of influencing the party polls out come to their advantage.

They claimed that their rivals were out to ensure weak candidates were voted in to weaken the party in the region.

They made the remarks during a membership registration drive in Kachien South in Kasipul constituency.

Former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo, former Kibiri MCA Kennedy Ondiek, Lavendah Ojala and Tabitha Nyandiek were also present.

Daima said they have information that some youth could be joining UDA as members with intention of scuttling the party affairs in the region.

“We understand there are plans by some people to interfere with UDA elections scheduled for December 9. They want to plant their people to rock the party from within,” Daima said.

He said the ill intention is aimed at ensuring UDA members elect weak leaders in the election.

Owidi said they intend to ensure UDA members elect strong leaders who can drive the party agenda to enable the party to win as many seats as possible in the region during 2027 general election.

“Through UDA we want Homa Bay people to elect charismatic and courageous officials who will propagate its agenda and win the seats we want. Measures are being put in place to ensure UDA wins many seats in the county,” Owidi said.

He challenged the ODM party leaders to accept the spirit of competition and avoid intimidating people who hold UDA gatherings in Homa Bay.

“Homa Bay belongs to all of us and we shall strengthen UDA in this county,” Owidi said.

Owino warned leaders against causing violence in UDA meetings in the county.

“What we need is peace but it is undemocratic and wrong for any leader to attempt to disrupt UDA leaders’ meetings. We must respect one another,” Owino said.

He rallied residents to support President William Ruto.

"Let us support Ruto because he has opened his doors for us,” Owino said.

Kalo said they will not relent from popularizing Ruto into Nyanza region.
