By Peter Ochieng President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, took time to ensure education stakeholders and Kenyans at large that the roll-out and implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) is on course. Addressing school heads under the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) in Mombasa, the president said much has been done by his administration, geared towards ensuring that the curriculum is fully implemented even after he leaves office in August 2022. "My administration has progressively expanded the education infrastructure to accommodate the growth in enrolment. This includes classrooms, desks and chairs as well as electricity. We are laying a firm foundation, a foundation for our children that will not be shaken,” said the Head of State. He stated that as schools re-open for the first term of 2022 next week, schools will have more than 9 million children learning under CBC. Additionally, he said 6,470 classrooms are due for completion by the end of this month, in keeping with his pronouncement regarding the building of 10,000 classrooms to support the establishment of Junior Secondary Schools, across the Country. “The remaining classrooms will be completed in the second phase and handed over to the incoming administration.” He said he recognizes the role played by teachers in advancing Kenya's development agenda. “I want to reiterate that my administration recognizes the important role teachers play in advancing our development agenda. In this regard and as Madaraka Day 2022 approaches, I look forward to awarding national honours to outstanding and transformative leaders from the education sector; those who have distinguished themselves through superlative service to Kenya.” Madaraka Day is marked every June 01.
