We will deal with you, Ruto warns those behind Sondu killings
By Peter Ochieng
President William Ruto kicked off his four-day visit of Nyanza with a tough warning to those behind attacks and killings within Sondu township.
Attacks and county attacks in the town which lies on the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties have led to death of 8 days this week.
Speaking in Nyando while presiding over the launch of the Kabonyo Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence, Ruto said perpetrators of the Sondu killings will be dealt with the 'Al-Shabaab way.
"There are people taking us backwards and we will deal with them the same way we have dealt with the bandits in the North Rift and Al Shabaab," said the Head of State.
"Let me assure you that anyone who caused the death of people in Sondu will be arrested and charged."
He spoke a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki effected the transfer top security bosses in Kericho and Kisumu counties.
Ruto noted that the Kabonyo project will go a long way in creating employment opportunities in Kisumu and neighbouring areas.
"Our country is endowed with abundant untapped maritime resources that we must protect and harness in a sustainable way. The Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture Service in Nyando Constituency will not only support our Blue Economy, but also create employment, help the people of Kisumu earn a living and facilitate the restocking of fish in Lake Victoria," he added.
The president was accompanied by a host of leaders, among them Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o.
"This project is extremely important because it is aligned with the Kenya vision 2030, the government's transformation agenda, and the Kisumu County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP)," said Nyong'o.
"Once completed, it will help to address food and nutrition security, wealth creation and improvement of livelihoods. It will establish a regional centre of excellence for sustainable aquaculture productivity for enhanced food and nutrition security, besides playing a crucial role in the growth of the Blue Economy," added the second term county boss.
Ruto will be in Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay and Migori counties to launch various initiatives for the next four days.
