Widows appeal for support to purchase tuk-tuks, improve transportation of farm produce

Members of the Awuoth Widows and Orphans Community based Organization (CBO) in Nyamasaria, Kisumu are appealing for financial support so as to purchase two electric tuk-tuks.
They practice regenerative agriculture, producing African vegetables with the proceeds being channeled towards supporting the ‘not-so-well- to-do’ widows in the community, and paying school fees for over 100 orphans.
The CBO was started in 2005 and its membership stands at 500 widows and 100 youths.
Addressing the press on Monday, Juanita Anyango, the CBO’s chairlady said for several years, they have relied on hiring motorbikes to transport their produce to markets, with fluctuating hiring rates being a major cause for concern.
“Transport is our major challenge,” she remarked.
“We therefore appeal to individuals, donors, church members or well wishers to support us through E-Safiri so that we can easily transport our produce from the farm to the aggregation centre, and then into the market,” she appealed.
The chairlady said they are currently fundraising via Mchanga platform, through the E-Safiri Charging Limited, a female-founded start-up in Kenya establishing off-grid charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Edith Ombogo, the company’s Chief Operations Officer (COO) said they are partnering with the CBO, to offer reliable and affordable sustainable transport solutions.
“While we have been able to set up a charging hub and cold storage, the women still lack funds to purchase their own electric three-wheelers. We are raising funds to provide two electric three-wheeler vehicles for Awuoth widows, enabling them to transport their produce efficiently and independently,” she stated.
“Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of these widows. Help us provide the tools they need to thrive and build a brighter, more sustainable future for themselves and their families. Donate today and be part of a transformative journey. Every contribution, big or small, will help drive change and empower these women to break free from constraints of poverty,” added Ombogo.
Sh3 million is needed to make the dream a reality. One can donate through this link:https://www.mchanga.africa/fundraiser/105231
