Police in Eldoret have arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of fatally stabbing her husband on Wednesday evening at Kisumu Ndogo estate in Kapseret sub-county, Uasin Gishu county.

Uasin Gishu county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said police on patrol who were alerted by members of the public over some skirmish in a house in the estate found the body of the 25-year-old deceased man (name withheld) in a pool of blood.

Mwanthi said according to information availed to the police, the deceased had separated from his wife who moved into her sister's house within the same estate.

He said the incident occurred around 7 pm when the husband followed the wife to her sister's house to collect personal effects that she had taken with her, “we suspect the wife is responsible for the killing because by the time police arrived at the scene, the suspect and her sister had taken off, and only the body of the deceased was lying on the floor in a pool of blood.”

With assistance from members of the public, the county commander added, police launched a manhunt and managed to trace the suspect to another house where they apprehended her.

“She is in police custody and will be arraigned in court to face the charges,” said Mwanthi.

In another incident, a woman is admitted in critical condition at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, MTRH intensive care unit after being stabbed in the chest by her husband.

Uasin Gishu county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm at Kamkunji estate in Soy sub-county on Wednesday following some domestic dispute.

He said police who were alerted by members of the public hurried to the scene and managed to rush the injured to MTRH for medical attention. The husband, who is the main suspect was taken into custody immediately.

The police commander raised the alarm over an increase in domestic violence in the county and called on couples to always seek alternative ways to resolve their differences instead of rushing into violent means.

“Of late cases of domestic violence have risen sharply in Uasin Gishu, it is important for parents, relatives, and friends to move fast and address disputes among couples when they notice any slight cracks to prevent deaths related to gender-based violence,” he advised.

It is important that as a society we look for early solutions when we notice cracks among couples, dialogue is the best route to address these cases not violence, said Mwanthi adding that whenever they interview neighbours they always say the couple had long-standing domestic issues.

Mwanthi also observed that cases of wives killing husbands are on the rise unlike in the past when GBV deaths were associated with husbands killing their wives.
