Casual workers in Rachuonyo East Sub County Hospital in Ramula held demos over delayed salaries Wednesday.
The workers who paralyzed cleaning services at the hospitals complained they had not been paid their salary dues for the last six months.
Through their leader George Ogembo Juma, the workers accused their employer Aydenew Cleaning Services Company of offering empty promises each time they asked for their salary.
“We have families who depend on us. Every day we are working, yet we cannot afford basic needs,” he said.
Mr Ogembe vowed they are not going back to work until their cries are heard and paid all their salary arrears saying they can’t listen to empty promises again.
“We have sold our cherished properties to cater to our daily needs and manage to come to work each day,” said Esther Auma.
The workers who held demos within the hospital facility said they would continue with the strike until the company paid them.
Mildred Adhiambo Otieno, one of the workers demonstrating said they cannot be cowed even if they threaten to sack them.
“Let the company pay us we have families depending on us,” she said.
Dr. Ken Otieno the in-charge Rachuonyo East Sub County Hospital through a phone call said he was away and not brief on the unfolding situation though he promised the issue would be addressed amicably through the parties concerned.
