You'll be crucified for corruption, accountants warned

Accountants have been urged to embrace and exercise professionalism in their daily work related undertakings.
Speaking at a Bungoma hotel on Friday while closing the Western region Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) workshop, Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka acknowledged the huge role played by accountants in the country, urging them to serve diligently and professionally.
"Finance is the engine of every organisation. Remain steadfast in your work. Don't be compromised, you'll be crucified for corruption," warned Lusaka.
"Audit starts and ends with finance. Any missing details can easily land one in the hands of law enforcement agencies."
The county boss said devolution has played a major role in empowering counties, since its inception in 2013.
"The fruits of devolution are clearly evident. We can now promote our economy by utilising local facilities for workshops."
Peter Mukoya, ICPAK Western region chairman thanked the governor for gracing the occasion.
He said ICPAK members have the capacity to capacity-build county staff, especially those in finance departments to improve on efficiency.
"We can come in and capacity build the staff to help improve efficiency," he said.
Tony Barasa, Lwandanyi Member of the County Assembly (MCA) and former Bungoma County Assembly Public Accounts Committee chair, said they will support governor Lusaka's bid to have county staff undergo frequent trainings to improve on efficiency.
Lusaka is in his second term as Bungoma governor, having held the mantle from 2013 to 2017.
From 2017 to 2022, he served as Senate Speaker while Wycliffe Wangamati served as second Bungoma county boss.
