You’ll suffer if Gachagua is impeached, Manyora warns Ruto

By Peter Ochieng

Popular political commentator and the University of Nairobi don Professor Herman Manyora says President William Ruto will suffer greatly if his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua is impeached.

Allegations are rife that some Members of Parliament (MPs) aligned to President William Ruto and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga, are working on an impeachment motion against the second in command, slightly two years since being sworn in.

Through his YouTube channel, Prof. Manyora said Gachagua’s impeachment will ‘end in tears’ for Ruto, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Ruto will suffer and pay for it, because he would lose the Mountain (Mt. Kenya) forever, for good and all of it,” he said, during a conversation with Jadiel Kabiro.

“And I have always said this, the collective anger of Mt. Kenya can sweep anybody off their feet. If you get people as popular and as organised, well endowed with a rich history controlling the economic purse of the nation and you antagonise them to the point the community is angry, I sympathise with you. I feel for you, you could pay for it,” he added.

He warned Ruto against banking on Azimio supporters if he intends to get elected for the second in 2027.

“The Luhya and the Luo are not serious voters. So, you cannot discard the serious Mt. Kenya voters for the shaky and unreliable Western Kenya voter. You are doing the wrong maths.”

By ‘antagonising’ his deputy, Manyora said, Ruto seems to be in a self-destruction mode, adding that he may end up finishing third in the 2027 presidential race.

“I don’t understand. There must be something he knows we don’t know,” he emphasised.

President Ruto may be banking on the support of Odinga, whom he has endorsed for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairman race. Elections will be held in February 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to determine Chad’s Moussa Faki Mahamat’s successor.

Odinga is among the front-runners. If he loses, Manyora said, there’s a likelihood of him coming back to combine forces with Gachagua and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, against Ruto in 2027.
