The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) youth officials in Homa Bay have urged youths in the county to join the ruling party.
Led by the County Youth League Chairman Kevin Ouma, the officials said the Kenya Kwanza government had a robust agenda for the youth which the locals should strategically position themselves to benefit from.
Ouma made the remarks Sunday in Ndhiwa town during a member recruitment drive cum election of the Sub County youth office bearers.
He was flanked by the party Secretary Wayn Odote, Assistant Coordinator Kennedy Ongati and Organizing Secretary Evans Oloo.
The chairman pledged that as leaders they will articulate issues affecting youths in the county for the government to address them.
“UDA was formed with a strong agenda of transforming lives and developing the youth. As leaders we are prioritizing your interests and concerns for the government to resolve,” Ouma said.
The youth leaders told members to focus on making the party vibrant in the area and avoid any form of violence.
They called for political tolerance as they put structures for strengthening the party in Homa Bay county.
Ouma said they were optimistic of winning hearts of the locals to join the party owing to the party's transformative agenda.
“Everybody has democratic right to join a party of their choice, but I always remind the youths that UDA is the ruling party with a visionary agenda for the them," Ouma said.
Ongati called for respect between supporters of UDA and ODM party in the county.
He argued that multiparty democracy is enshrined in the constitution and should be embraced to enhance peace in the county.
Ongati asked UDA members not to confront ODM supporters whenever they are undertaking mobilization activities.
“Let’s set our eyes on the development that UDA wants for the youth. Socio- economic development in our county will only be achieved if we avoid unnecessary confrontation,” Ongati said.
Odote said they were targeting to recruit at least 300,000 UDA members in the county by 2027.
He said they are undertaking membership registration to make UDA vibrant in Homa Bay.
“We are focusing on bringing numbers to UDA ahead of 2027 as politics is all about numbers,” Odote said.
